Help Homeless Pets

Two of our officers, Adrienne Gossman - Vice President and Craig Nelson - Member at Large, will be running in the 9th Annual Rescue Run to raise money for Homeless Pets through PetPromise.

PetPromise is dedicated to helping to create a world
where there are no more homeless pets through education, rescue, sterilization, and adoption.

The Jacket Backers have donated $75 each to Adrienne and Craig's efforts.  If you would like to make a contribution, contact Adrienne at vice_president@jacketbackers.org or Craig at mal@jacketbackers.org.

OOPS!!!

While making some changes to the location of our website we have encountered a few difficulties.

The website is being re-created. Take a stroll through last season as we re-post the content from last year.

We will be posting updates about summer activities as they are planned as well as posting our prior content.

Everything should be back to normal in a week or so.  Thank you for your patience.

UPDATE:  The Structure of the website is complete.  Any feedback in the comments or to webmaster@jacketbackers.org would be greatly appreciated.

Please note that our domain address is back to simply 'jacketbackers.org' not 'thejacketbackers.com/test1'.  Consequently, some old links to our site and RSS feeds are obsolete.

If you use the RSS feed, please update your feed address to http://www.jacketbackers.org/rss.xml - That is our main RSS feed; there are other feeds for subsets of the website.

Join the CAHL in helping Hockey Beat down Breast Cancer!

Teams from the Columbus Adult Hockey League (CAHL), in cooperation with Chiller Ice Rinks, are pleased to announce the first "Hockey Beats down Breast Cancer" game benefitting the Young Survival Coalition.  The game is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 8:00 - 10:00 pm at the Dispatch Ice Haus.

The CAHL has invited JB members to join in and help in their quest to Beat Down Breast Cancer.  The event is open to the public at a suggested (voluntary) $5 donation; you're also welcome to attend the pregame meet and greet at the Garage Bar (147 Vine St.) and post-game gathering at the R Bar (413 N. Front St.)

The original concept was to play one regulation CAHL game wearing pink hockey jerseys sponsored by friends, family and colleagues who had a loved one stricken by breast cancer.

The event has grown since then.  The game has gained support and generated interest from all around the hockey community, including the CBJ.  There are 46 roster spots available for the benefit game and approximately 10 players on the waiting list to play.  The players' jerseys can be sponsored for a minimum donation of $100.  The Jacket Backers have sponsored one of the player jerseys.  There are still five player jerseys available for sponsorship - if you are interested, please email Suzanne at cbjcrazy11@aol.com right away with best phone number to contact you - deadline is Thursday evening 5/7 as jerseys go to press on Friday, 5/8.

Sponsors may choose someone that has been affected by breast cancer whose name will appear on the jersey.  The jersey will be given to the sponsor after the game and the sponsor will also have a chance to meet the player and have a photo taken.  Corporate sponsors are still being sought for the event, as are items for a silent auction to be held during the event.  Various other items will be available for purchase during the event to help support the cause, including t-shirts and wristbands.

Select "read more" to learn more about the event and the Young Survival Coalition.

Thank You

After last night's loss, the series is tilted badly against the Jackets. There's no arguing that.

However.

It isn't over!

After such an incredible season, even after the pain we've felt recently, the team deserves to have its fans there Thursday Night, cheering them on, no matter what happens. Don't let it end without a fight! Don't let this season end with a whimper!

Stand up! Cheer! Get loud, and be counted!

Even if this first trip to the playoffs is likely to end soon, there's going to be a next year, and the Jackets are going to be right back in the hunt again!

Don't sell your tickets. Don't stay home and set your DVR. Don't sigh and just let this slip away.

Get down to the arena district, and show the team that we support them, no matter what!

LET'S! GO! JACKETS!

Ohio Hockey Celebration Offers Fans Two Ways to Win Hard-to-Find Playoff Tickets:

Fans attending the Ohio Hockey Celebration this Sunday, April 19th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in the Arena District will get two separate opportunities to win lower bowl tickets to the Blue Jackets up-coming home playoff games. The first opportunity is a raffle for two pairs of tickets—one pair to the Jackets first home playoff game in team history next Tuesday and another pair to next Thursday’s game. Tickets for the raffle will be $5 each and proceeds from the raffle will go to the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation. The event will also feature a hardest slap shot contest free with admission. The fan in attendance who has the hardest slap shot as clocked by radar will win two lower bowl tickets to next Thursday’s game at Nationwide Arena.

The Radar Cage is one of five interactive games at the Ohio Hockey Celebration brought in directly from Top Shot Interactive in Toronto, Canada. Other games include: Top Shot Hockey, an electronic full-sized hockey net which provides shooters an opportunity to play a variety of games testing their shooting accuracy; Road Hockey Warrior, a goaltending simulation where the contestant gets foam pucks shot at them and must prevent them from getting in the goal; Shut Out Virtual Goalie, a game in which the player faces off against virtual shooters on a TV monitor; and a Mini Rink complete boards, nets, foam pucks and plastic sticks for children to play hockey.

The event will also feature an exhibit from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada, a game worn jersey expo, a hockey memorabilia auction and an autograph session with former Blue Jackets Geoff Sanderson, Kevyn Adams and Brett Harkins and former Cleveland Baron Dennis Maruk. The FS Ohio Blue Line will be on hand selling team merchandise and game worn Blue Jackets jerseys.

Tickets for the event are available online at Ohio Hockey Celebration’s website (www.ohiohockeycelebration.com) and are $15 for adults and $10 for children. A portion of net proceeds from the event will go to the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation.
