It is usually located behind section 116, near the escalator from the McConnell Street Entrance, but may be relocated on a game-by-game basis at the Jackets' request.  Feel free to stop by at any game with your questions, comments or just to see what is going on with the Jacket Backers.

Community Power Play

$702 Raised To Date This Season for The Blue Jackets Foundation #CommunityPowerPlay Goal! (updated 11/26/2014)

THIS SEASON the Jacket Backers are again teaming up with the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation to present our 2nd ANNUAL COMMUNITY POWER PLAY!!   For each Power Play Goal scored by the Blue Jackets, the Jacket Backers will make a donation to the Blue Jackets Foundation – and we’d love it if you’d join us and match!  Use the donation button below to show your support and Celebrate Life and Hockey!

NEW FOR 2014 – 2015 SEASON!!  We’re increasing our donations!!  For the first PP Goal scored in each game, we will donate $20 to the Foundation, for the second PP Goal we will donate $40 more, for the third PP Goal we will donate $60 more and so on. If a PP goal turns out to be our game winner, we will add another $100 to the Foundation.  Help us celebrate the joy of scoring more power play goals!

See the New Year in with all of your best Hockey Friends - The Jacket Backers!

Spending New Year's Eve without our favorite things - Blue Jackets Hockey and a bunch of crazy fans - just didn't seem right, so we have made arrangements to WATCH HOCKEY ON THE BIG SCREEN and have a New Years' Celebration at Studio 35 Cinema & Drafthouse (3055 Indianola Ave., 43202).

Come see the CBJ battle the Avs at our MOVIE THEATER GAME WATCHING PREMIERE on the GLORIOUSLY BIG SCREEN in full DIGITAL TECHNICOLOR (or something like that).  Then stick around to celebrate the New Year!  Stay even later and enjoy a MOVIE (Anchorman 2) with all your auld and new acquaintances!

  • Doors open at 7:00 pm
  • Pre-Game starts at 7:30 pm
  • The Puck Drops at 8:00 pm
  • Enjoy snacks including food catered from City BBQ
  • 2 Drink Coupons for your favorite beverages featuring 40 taps

Studio 35 features a viewing auditorium as well as a drafthouse with 40 beers on tap.  A wide variety of craft, local, and traditional selections are available, along with a full service cash bar. (2 drinks are included with your admission).  Additional monitors are available to watch the game from the drafthouse pub area!  

The Jacket Backers will be providing a selection of light appetizers and food including City BBQ (not exactly a full meal but a nice tasty snack).  

Purchase your tickets now to reserve your spot.  This is going to be a New Year's Eve Celebration you don't want to miss!  We're opening this event to the public shooting for a sellout, but we want to pack it full of JB members and guests so don't delay!

Studio 35 is Columbus' oldest independent movie theater, located in the heart of Clintonville and features new movies, classic cinema, special events like this one, and lots of independent charm. 

Tickets can be purchased online with the "Buy Now" button below.  Be sure to include your mailing address so that we can mail you your tickets.  Tickets can also be picked up at a home CBJ game or at the box office the night of the event.


November 20, 2013 Jacket Backers Meeting Summary

  Location: Bob Evans, 3140 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, Ohio

  1. President - Julie - Jacket Backer Scarves from HOMAGE for $20, inquire at any Jacket Backers meeting or game watching party.

  2. Treasurer – Brian M - Jacket Backers' commitment to Columbus Blue Jacket Foundation for the Community Power Play (CPP) goals so far this year is $464 ($290 from Jacket Backers account and $174 in member donations).

  3. Activities - Jessica –New Year's Eve Watch PartyStudio 35, tickets are $30 per person. Ticket includes two (2) drink coupons, champagne toast, and City Barbeque appetizers as well as movie after midnight. Doors open at 7pm, CBJ game against Colorado Avalanche starts at 8pm, after the game televised New Year’s Eve celebrations, and at 12:30 am to start year off “Anchorman 2”.  250 tickets available to sell, theatre holds close to 200 and lounge has room for 100. Next CBJ/JB Game Watching Party is Monday, November 25th at Polaris BWW.  Other activities in the works including next JB Holiday Meeting with optional gift exchange on December 18th.

  4. Communications / Social Media – Michelle– A lot of hits on Twitter about JB Ottawa Trip. People took pictures of Jacket Backers on TV and tweeted them. Get info to Michelle for email blasts.  Two upcoming CBJ Social Suite ticket giveaway contests.

  5. Community Service - Keith – Dec 7th, Ryan Salmons Blood Drive at Memorial Baptist Church, all donors are entered in a prize drawing. Prizes include tickets to a game, catered suite, and prizes from Jacket Backers. Need volunteers to work both registration table and Jacket Backers table 10:15am-12:15pm and 12:15-2:15pm. Open Shelter is taking donations for hygiene items, children books, etc. May collect at next game watching party. Open Shelter is also looking for help December 13th -16th to pack gift baskets.  Thanks to all that helped with picking up trash on the Jacket Backers Adopted Highway. Next highway cleanup not until March

  6. Membership - Brian H - 537 current members: 109 new, 428 renewed, 6 of the new are Junior members. Need Table volunteers on November 27th, as well at least one table volunteer for each of the games in December.

  7. Travel - Chris – Buffalo: Bus is full, 3 ticket only still available.  Waiting list for bus.  Chris needs to know T-shirts sizes from several people and any money still due by Dec 14th. Nashville – some room still available on bus, however people need to get their reservations in. Florida: 15 confirmed - 15 tickets still available for each location, do not need to attend both games.  Planning for hotel/shared transportation between game cities soon.  Ottawa: 16 people made the trip, email: secretary@jacketbackers.org with pictures and/or comments to be added to website recap of trip.

  8. Next meeting is set for December 18th, Wednesday. JB Holiday Social Meeting rather than formal planning meeting, with CBJ/Hockey related white elephant gift exchange. Need suggestions for location.


RJ Umberger's Game Winning Power Play Goal Earns the Foundation an Extra $50

Saturday Night's Community Power Play got started in the first period with Brandon Dubinsky's power play goal ($10) assisted by Mark Letestu and Fedor Tyutin.

RJ Umberger kept the party going with a power play goal to start the third period ($20) - assisted by James Wisniewski and Ryan Johansen - the goal turned out to be the game winner ($50).Photo by Jamie Sabau/NHLI via Getty Images

The win over the Islanders provided the best night so far of the season for the Community Power Play as the Jacket Backers will donate $80 to the Blue Jackets Foundation for those goals.  Along with an additional $168 collected, our total contribution to the Foundation so far will be $348.

RJ Umberger Nets Community Power Play Goal #9

This goal was the Blue Jackets' ninth power play goal of the season.  To date the Jacket Backers' commitment to the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation has reached $100.  In addition to that, we have collected another $132, making our contribution to date now $232.

Adopt-A-Highway Pickup on November 9th

Winter is coming...and we'd like to get one more Highway Pick-up date in before the snow flies.

We've decided on Saturday, Nov 9th, 9 am - Noon. If you'd like to help with our adopted highway, please contact Keith at community_service@jacketbackers.org.

Our Section of Highway is on I-71 between North Broadway and Hudson St.


All Aboard the FSN Ohio Fan Express, Tuesday, November 5th!

The Jacket Backers have been given the opportunity of riding the FSN Ohio Fan Express to the Tuesday, Nov 5th CBJ vs Ottawa game.

If you'd like to join us, please contact Jessica at activities@jacketbackers.org. They've got room for 40 fans, first come first served so let us know ASAP if you're interested.

We'll be meeting in Lewis Center (exact meeting location will be provided to those that sign up) at 5 pm and leaving at 5:30 pm for the game. (They'll also drop us back at our vehicles after the game is over with - trip back leaves 30 mins after the end of game.) Plus, we'll also have a raffle giveaway during the ride.


Ryan Murray's First NHL Goal is Community Power Play Goal #8

Adam Cairns | DispatchOn Friday night, Ryan Murray netted his first NHL goal with assists from RJ Umberger and James Wiznieski.  The goal was also the Blue Jackets' eighth Community Power Play goal of the season.  Ryan Murray is the second Blue Jackets player this season to score his first NHL goal on the Community Power Play - Boone Jenner was the other.

To date the Jacket Backers' donation to the Blue Jackets Foundation is up to $90 with the total now raised up to $210.  Thank you for your contributions and let the goals keep coming!

Save the Date - 5th Annual #3 Ryan Salmons Day of Giving, Saturday, December 7

The Jacket Backers are again a sponsor of the "Refuse to Lose" American Red Cross Blood Drive in memory of #3 Ryan Salmons at Memorial Baptist Church, 2435 Eakin Rd., Columbus, OH 43204 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.

Register now by calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or 614-214-4001 or online here (sponsor code: RyanSalmons).  If you last donated on or before October 12, 2013, you may be eligible to donate again at this event.

There will also be a raffle for a Columbus Blue Jackets prize pack with tickets to a 2013-2014 Regular Season Hockey Game (TBD) with Complimentary Dinner Buffet - Time Warner HD Lounge).  ALL DONORS WILL RECEIVE A COMPLIMENTARY RAFFLE TICKET.  Additional tickets ($5 each or 3 for $10) can be purchased at the event or in advance by contacting the event coordinator at 614-214-4001. All proceeds benefit the CBJ Foundation.  Blood donation is not required to purchase tickets and attendance is not required to win.  Help us reach our goal of 50 donors.  With your help, we can make this our most successful blood drive to date!


Brandon Dubinsky Scores Community Power Play Goal #7 Against the Devils

Kyle Robertson | DispatchBrandon Dubinsky started the scoring against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night with assists from RJ Umberger and James Wisniewski.

Dubinsky's tally was the 7th Power Play goal of the season scored by the Blue Jackets this season.

The Jacket Backers' donation to date now stands at $80.  We have also accepted an additional $113 in donations, making our total donation to the Blue Jackets Foundation $193 to date.

Boone Jenner Nets Two Community Power Play Goals - Introducing 'We Score More, We Donate More!'

Photo by Richard Wolowicz/Getty ImagesBoone Jenner scored Community Power Play Goals number 5 and 6 of the season against the Montreal Canadiens.  The Blue Jackets' two power play goals means that when 'We Score More - We Donate More' in our Escalating PPG Donation to the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation!  

For the first PP goal of a game the Jacket Backers will donate $10; for the second PP goal of a game we will donate $20 for that goal; for the third PP goal of a game we will donate $30 for that goal; and so on.

Boone Jenner's first PP goal of the night with assists from Ryan Johanson and David Savard results in another $10 donation from the Jacket Backers.  Jenner's second PP goal with assists from Mark Letestu and Artem Anisimov results in an additional $20 donation to the Foundation.
